VIEWFIELD ERSKINE CHURCH

Joint Sunday worship is in the Church of the Holy Rude at 11am and is Advent Gift Service with minister Rev Alan Miller and organist Ian Boulter. The Holy Rude Choir will be presenting a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 6.30pm on Sunday. Service on December 22 is at Viewfield Erskine Church and will be the annual Nativity Service held by the Young Church. The Guild Christmas Party will be held in the Upper Hall on Monday, December 16 from 7.30pm and entertainm­ent on the night will be supplied by Archie Strang. DUNBLANE CATHEDRAL

Tomorrow (Thursday) the midweek service will be at 11am. The Cathedral Kids Christmas Party will be in Cathedral Halls on Saturday, December 14 at 3.15pm. On Sunday in the cathedral there will be an early service at 9.15am and worship will be at 10.30am. At 7.30pm the Carols and Carillons Concert of Christmas Music with handbell ensembles take place in the cathedral. All welcome to this popular event where all of the cathedral’s children’s, youth and adult handbell groups will perform Christmas music from through the ages from traditiona­l carols to modern festive music. There will also be much audience participat­ion with a chance to join in singing several wellknown carols accompanie­d by strings, woodwind, keyboards, handbells and percussion. Admission £8 (concession­s £5, children free). On Tuesday, December 17 there will be Advent Bible Studies at 7.30pm in Cathedral Halls.

CHRISTMAS MATINEES

For the last few years there has been an opportunit­y to escape the frenetic rush of the pre-Christmas period and listen to some reflective music in the sublime surroundin­gs of Dunblane Cathedral. This year the cathedral’s Director of Music Kevin Duggan will play two contrasted programmes on the marvellous Flentrop organ. The first, on Friday, December 20 will comprise music for Advent, full of expectatio­n. The second, on Saturday, December 21 features festive Christmas music. Finally, there will be the opportunit­y to hear talented young pianists and organists with a connection to the cathedral. There will also be a violinist and trombonist. Admission to these atmospheri­c concerts is free but there will be a retiring collection for the homelessne­ss charity Social Bite. All welcome.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Dunblane Senior Citizens Christmas lunch is again in the King Robert Hotel Stirling on Monday, December 16 at 1pm. A free bus will be run from Dunblane to the King Robert leaving at noon with the usual pick-up points. Enquires phone 01786 821128 and leave a message.

TEA DANCE

FESTIVE CEILIDH

The Victoria Hall’s popular Festive Ceilidh takes place on Saturday, December 28 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 with primary schoolchil­dren’s tickets £2.50, are available at Smallprint in Beech Road, Dunblane. The RE:Fresh Cafe on Friday, December 13 from 11am-12,45pm is the last one of the year. Cafe re-opens on Friday, January 17. Sunday service will take place at 10.30am. Both events are in the Mayfield Centre.

On Sunday the service at 11am will be conducted by Rev Martin Keane. Children’s activities will take place at the same time. Evening service at 7pm will be conducted by Mr Keane.

ST NINIANS OLD PARISH CHURCH

Bible Study Group will meet at the manse tonight (Wednesday) at 7.30pm. The service on Sunday at 10.30am will be conducted by Rev Gary McIntyre. The children of the Sunday Club are invited to bring a gift to the church which will be distribute­d by the Salvation Army to children at Christmas. There will be a service in Westerland­s Care Home on Sunday at 1.30pm. A service of Lessons and Carols will be held in the church on Sunday at 6.30pm. Following the service mulled wine, tea, coffee and mince pies will be served in the Parish Halls. All welcome.

BORESTONE PRIMARY

Enrolment for the 2020/21 school year which starts on August 19 will be Tuesday, January 14 from 9.30-11.30am; Wednesday, January 15 from 1.30-3.30pm and Thursday, January 16 from 9.3011.30am. All children who are five years old on or before August 19 must start their primary school education on that date and children who are five years old between August 19, 2020 and February 28, 2021 may also start.
