Animals suffer as river bursts banks
Animals at a sanctuary near Aberfoyle have been left“standing in water”after torrential rain flooded the area.
Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre is a charity that offers a home to abused, abandoned and unwanted animals.
However, much of the centre has been left under water as a result of flooding following spells of heavy rain earlier this week.
The nearby River Forth burst its banks on Sunday, leaving fields, paddocks and sheds flooded.
On Tuesday, further heavy rain led to rising water levels at the centre.
Mione Morrison, founder and centre manager, said:“The animals are all now standing in water. There is nothing we can do about it until it (the water) goes down.
“The animals are standing – including six ponies, two sheep and two cows, one of which is only seven months old – in eight inches of water.
“They are fortunately inside so I can keep an eye on them. The donkeys so far have escaped the flooding.
“I have just moved the sheep in with the goats as the goats are on the decking and out of the flood but the sheep were getting panicky.”
The centre cares for a range of animals, including cows, dogs, donkeys, goats, horses, mules, pigs, ponies, sheep, snakes tortoises, guinea pigs, rabbits and chinchillas.
A fundraiser has been set up to help the centre deal with restoring the facilities following the flooding.
