No dry January for Stirling folk
It finally stopped raining, after 17 consecutive days of recorded rainfall in Stirling.
Saturday, January 18, was our first dry day of the year.
Despite rain falling on six days last week it wasn’t as wet as the previous week, with only 18.3mm of rain compared to 86.6mm.
It wasn’t a cold week either with the temperature only dropping below freezing for a few hours late on Saturday evening. It was mostly an unsettled and windy week and only turned more settled as high pressure moved into the area last weekend. We even managed a few hours of unbroken sunshine on Saturday.
The maximum temperature reached 10 Centigrade on Thursday, January 16, with a low of -0.1 Centigrade on Saturday, January 18.
The maximum daily rainfall was 5.33mm on Thursday, January 16.
Wind gusts reached 42mph on Wednesday, January 15.
Looking at the week ahead, the area will continue to be affected by high pressure for most of the week bringing us reasonably settled weather although there will be a lot of cloud around which could be thick enough at times for some drizzle.
The cloud will likely keep the temperature above freezing. Towards the end of the week we will lose the high pressure allowing Atlantic driven low pressure systems to affect our weather bringing us rain and wind towards the end of the weekend and into next week.
The earliest sunrise: will be 8.19am with the latest sunset at 4.38pm.
Did You Know: We have just had 17 consecutive days of recorded precipitation in Stirling but our record is 29 consecutive days starting in December 2013 until January 8, 2014. The rainfall for the first 17 days of 2020 is the longest time into the new year without a dry day beating the 15 wet days at the start of 2015.
