But Riverside miss out on penalties

-

WESTFIELD COLTS ................... 7 RIVERSIDE AMATEURS ........... 7

(COLTS WIN 4-3 ON PENS) pace with Riverside well on top and within 25 minutes they were 3-1 up.

Both teams played flowing football going forward but always looked like conceding and sure enough after some sloppy defending Westfield played themselves back into the match and by half time it was 3-3.

The second half started off at a slower pace with both teams playing good football. McCleary finished off a good move for Riverside with a clinical shot but Westfield responded almost immediately.

There was a period of half an hour with no goals and the only excitement was Riverside’s Cully being sent off for two bookable offences.

The game exploded into life again in the last seven minutes when there was four goals. Anderson put Riverside ahead again to complete his hat-trick before Westfield scored twice in two minutes to 6-5 up. Both teams were going for it and Mark McDowell and Kerr Murphy scored in less than a minute to put Riverside 7-6 up with less than two minutes of the 90 to go.

Riverside refused to shut up shop and Westfield scored an equaliser in injury time.

The home side missed the first penalty and Riverside had the upper hand but two missed penalties handed the tie to Westfield and they go on into the next round of the David McKinnon Memorial Trophy.

Both teams will look to tighten up their defences in their next fixtures but it made for an excellent match.
