Counting on pupils’ support

- TRACY-ANN CARMICHAEL

It’s as easy as one, two, three for schools to take part in a charity maths challenge.

Pupils across Stirlingshire and Clackmannanshire are being urged to count down to the NSPCC’s Number Day and help boost funds.

The event, on Friday, February 7, offers a range of fun, curriculumbased activities provided by the charity.

Designed to liven up lessons, the event includes activities such as‘Who wants to be a Mathionaire’,‘Number

Hunt’and‘Wish Upon a Star’.

Cash raised will help the charity fund services such as Childine and ‘Speak out. Stay Safe’- a programme which helps children recognise abuse and neglect and educates them about who to go to if they have concerns.

In the last academic year, the initiative reached more than 5,300 primary school children in 29 primary schools across Stirling and Clackmannanshire through the provision of workshops and assemblies.

Almost £2m has been raised by the event since it launched 20 years ago.

Karen Walker, the NSPCC’s Schools Service Manager, said:“Number Day is a fantastic way to engage children with numbers and make maths more meaningful while raising money for the NSPCC.

“It has raised an incredible amount of money over the past 19 years and we are so grateful to all the schools that have got involved.

“I hope even more schools will join us this year to celebrate 20 years of Number Day and help protect more children.”
