Dorottya in medal form

-

Teenager Dorottya Csuta was on medal winning form, winning silver at the recent Scottish Under 17 indoor championships.

The 15 year-old Hungarian-based athlete, who runs for Central AC, was back in Scotland three weeks after winning the Scottish 3000m title in a European Youth championship qualifying time.

This time she took on the shorter 1500m distance where she found herself up against top class Edinburgh athlete Katie Johnson whom she had defeated in the 3000m event.

Dorottya ran from the front but with 400m to go Katie attacked and took a lead she never relinquished. Dorottya dug in all the way to finish second in an excellent club record time of 4.38.24. Such was the quality of the race both Katie and Dorottya had run inside the previous championship record.

Also in the 1500m final was Summer MacLean who ended in a respectable seventh in 4.55.56, knocking a huge 18 seconds off her previous best.

Elsewhere the standard was high with an influx of competitors in the sprints, hurdles and jumps from the rest of the UK.

Balfron’s Coirilidh Cook ran an excellent personal best in then 60m hurdles as she dipped below nine seconds for the first time with a time of 8.99 in both the semi-final and final. This placed her the top Scottish competitor but was only enough for fourth in a high class race.

Also in the 60m hurdles, Lois Burch had a big pb of 9.27 in her heat. She followed this up with 9.30 in the semi-final tol leave her ninth and just outside the final.

However as sixth place Scottish athlete, Lois will look to build on this and get into the medals in future.

Katherine Fowler sprinted to a new pb of 8.11 in the 60m to place 12th overall and sixth fastest Scot as she reached the semi finals. Both Katherine and Lois also both progressed to the 200m semi finals, Katherine running 26.90 and Lois 27.61 however their earlier efforts left them tired for the semi finals and unable to progress further.

Molly Cornes was on form in the long jump as she leapt to a season’s best 5.13m for seventh overall and fifth Scot. She had to settle for 10th place at high jump with 1.54m.

Louise Carroll was 18th at high jump with 1.44m and then 12th at triple jump with a season’s best 9.74m. Jumping alongside her was Ellen Montgomery who placed 15th with 8.89m and Rebecca Cumming who was 16th with 8.64m. For Rebecca this was her first step back into competition after a year out with injury.

In the 800m Amy Cully fought hard to reach the final but faded to finish in 2.28.74. There was a pb run for Naomi Howlieson who ran 2.31.99 minutes.

Finlay Marchant was the only boy taking part and ran 8.23 in the 60m and 26.97 in the 200m.
