New weekend date for A84 bridge survey

-

A programme of inspections at the Bridge of Teith near Doune has been rescheduled for this weekend after weather scuppered the initial timetable.

The stretch of the A84 will be subject to surveys from teams assessing the need for future maintenance on the bridge, which will be closed to motorists in both directions during the works.

The inspections were initially due to take place on February 1, but high water levels owing to the inclement weather in the area which prevented the workers from safely completing the surveys.

It will now take place on Saturday (February 15), with the work taking place between 5am and 12pm to help minimise disruption to motorists and a signed diversion will be in place via the A820 and A9, with the A84 remaining open up to the B8032 junction.

Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West representative said:“The Bridge of Teith on the A84 is one of the oldest structures on the network and is of historic and cultural importance.

“The investigations being carried out are essential for assessing the condition of the bridge to determine any future maintenance requirements which must comply with the listed building consent.

“The traffic management is essential to keep everyone safe during the project, however we have planned the works to finish before noon to help minimise disruption as much as possible.

“Our teams will do all they can to complete the surveys as quickly and safely as possible.”
