Amelia’s first outing shows promise for future

Central were well represente­d in the under 13 girls pentathlon with Loren Stewart, Niamh McKinlay, Amelia Campbell and Fia Watkin all taking part.

Loren and Niamh competed last yeat year while Amelia and Fia were attempting their first ever pentathlon with Amelia making her club debut.

Personal best came in the high jump for Niamh (1.17m) and Amelia (1.23m) while Loren went on to an excellent season’s best 1.32m for third place.

In the 60m hurdles Fia was fastest in her first ever race with 12.13 followed by Loren who ran a pb 12.52. Amelia managed 13.83 in her first ever race and Niamh looked to be heading for a pb but unfortunat­ely hit the final hurdle and took a tumble. She managed to get herself straight back up and finish in 13.75.

In the long jump pbs were registered by Fia (3.26m) and Niamh (3.55m), Amelia jumped an excellent 3.61m and Loren set a season’s best mark of 4.05m. In the shot there was pbs all round with Loren (6.05m), Amelia (5.05m), Fia (4.17m) and Niamh (5.02m).

In the final 800m Fia was fourth in the first heat in 3:02.90, Niamh was a clear winner of the second heat in 2:38.48, just missing her pb with Amelia following behind in 3:04.62. Loren took part in the third heat where she ran 2:48.60 for fourth in a close race.

When the scores were added up Loren had set a new best 1814 points for 10th place overall, Niamh also had a best of 1457 points for 17th,. Amelia scored 1263 points for 20th and Fia 1015 points for 28th overall.
