Upgrading calls over busy road

- CHRIS MARZELLA

Calls have been made for a stretch of rural road in Blairdrummond to undergo improvement works as a result of safety fears.

Two councillors want a section of Kirk Lane to be prioritised for resurfacing works.

Trossachs and Teith Tory councillors Jeremy McDonald and Martin Earl want the route, which runs across the carse at Blairdrummond and connects the A84 and the A811 to be upgraded.

They say that there are an increasing number of residential properties that rely on the road as well as important local businesses.

Sections of the road have been resurfaced in past years but there is a stretch just after the junction with the

A84 that the councillors are calling for action on. Thornhill and Blairdrummond Community Council have made representations regarding this area as have local residents.

Councillor McDonald said: “Getting this part of the road done will make a big difference. It’s a mess at the moment. The roads service has carried out work in other parts and that should be acknowledged but they just need to finish the job and get this piece done as quickly as possible. This would be greatly appreciated by residents and passing traffic.”

Councillor Earl added: “The council prepares the programme for the next financial year shortly and we want to see this section included in early part of their planned works for 2020-21. This is a busy road and we have received a number of complaints about the surface in this area.”

A spokesperson for Stirling Council says that the programme for road repairs during 2020/21 will assessed and designed “in the normal manner”. They added: “This will be fully outlined once the budget allocation is decided at the budget meeting on Thursday, March 12.”
