VE Day invitation by MSP

-

Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown has invited local World War Two veterans to take part in 75th Anniversary of VE Day celebrations in Edinburgh.

The former Royal Marine and former Veterans Minister is asking WW2 veterans who wish to attend the celebrations in the capital to get in touch with his office to arrange transport to and from the event, provided by Legion Scotland.

The Scottish Government, in addition to moving the May Bank holiday to coincide with the anniversary, is supporting Legion Scotland and Poppyscotland to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day on Friday, May 8.

The national event will focus on central Edinburgh. It will begin with a VIP reception at the Assembly Rooms for the Second World War veterans, followed by a mid-morning parade along George Street and an afternoon concert in Princes Street Gardens. This will include a RAF fly-past and music commissioned especially for the occasion.

Local events across Scotland will also be held to commemorate VE Day and those unable to travel to Edinburgh are advised to contact their local branch.

Mr Brown said:“This year’s event, including the parade along George Street and a RAF fly-past, is particularly meaningful as it commemorates the 75th anniversary of VE day. I would be delighted to assist any local World War Two veterans in arranging transport to Edinburgh to attend, kindly put on by Legion Scotland.

“Those wishing to get in contact with my office can do so on 01259219333 or by emailing keith. brown.msp@parliament.scot.”
