Caley Marts sold 138 cattle comprising of 81 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 57 OTM cattle.

Prime heifers sold to 235p pkg for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill purchased by T Connor, Butcher, Troon and to £1472 for a Limousin from J and J Wyllie, Knockhouse, Dunfermlin­e purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butcher, Stirling.

Prime bullocks sold to 228p pkg for a Limousin from J Caldwell, Moorfield, Kilmarnock purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk and to £1451 for a Limousin from W M Pettigrew, Faskine, Airdrie.

Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 202p pkg for a Limousin from W Dick and Sons, Mains of Throsk, Throsk and to £1412 from WI and AW Callion, Bolfornoug­ht, Stirling.

Also forward were 57 OTM cattle.

With a large number of feeding cows forward, they met a good trade, selling to a large ringside of buyers.

OTMs averaged 129p pkg selling to 153p pkg for a Limousin from W Dick, Mains of Throsk, Throsk and to £1120 for a Shorthorn from W Young and Son, Templehall, Fife.

Dairy cows averaged 114p pkg selling to 122p pkg from GW Paterson, Barbeth, Cumbernaul­d and to £840 from W Waugh, North Bankhead, Avonbridge.

Tuesday, March 3

Caley Marts sold 1987 prime hoggets, ewes and tups at their weekly sale.

All classes of well fleshed hoggets would be sharper on the week selling between 235-250p pkg with leaner types harder to sell.

Overall average for 1217 hoggets was 230.5p pkg (+ 4p on the week), 362 heavy hoggets (45.6kg +) averaged £114 (+ £4.10).

Top price of the day went to Doune Farms, West Lundie for a cracking 52kg Beltex at £135.

Top price per kg went to P McIntosh, Strageath for an outstandin­g 41kg Beltex at 285p.

Also forward were 770 cast ewes and rams. All classes met extreme rates with 500 ewes being Blackface. Many more could have easily been sold to sellers advantage. Heavy ewes averaged £116.80 and sold to £184 for two tremendous Texels from A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth.

Export ewes averaged £75.66 and sold to £100 for Blackface from Auchenboth­ie Farmers, Midhouse, Kilbarchan.

Cast rams sold to £172 for a Bluefaced Leicester from A MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth.
