Second half treble secures points for Doune

WESTERLANDS ........................................ 2 DOUNE CASTLE ....................................... 5

Doune secured all three Caledonian League Division 1 points with an emphatic second half display at Westerlands on Saturday.

The sides were locked at 2-2 at the interval after Castle had romped into an early 2-0 lead before squandering the chance to extend that advantage from the penalty spot and allowing Westerlands back into the game with two cheap goals late in the half.

Playing into the wind in the second period, however, they re-asserted their authority to score three unanswered goals to clinch the win.

Doune broke forward and grabbed a 1-0 lead after only three minutes. Robbie Hurst flashed a volley which crashed back off the face of the crossbar and Alan Inglis lashed the rebound home.

Seven minutes later it was 2-0. Lukasz Duszynski and Sean Wilbert worked a short corner wide on the right. Hurst gathered at the edge of the box and slammed a drive high into the net.

The game look all over when, after 29 minutes, Wilbert broke clear and was wiped by the keeper with a cynical foul. Duszynski took the resultant penalty but his effort lacked conviction and the keeper easily blocked with his legs.

The penalty save inspired the home side and they pulled a goal back after 36 minutes.

Duszynski then hit the bar before Doune gifted the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

Keeper Callum Davison misjudged his race from goal and clattered into the home forward to concede an obvious spot kick. Westies had beeter luck from 12 yards and confidently converted to draw themselves level at 2-2.

Into the wind, Doune started the second half impressively and in the space of 10 minutes, they created and failed to convert five excellent chances.

A goal finally came when Inglis made it 3-2 after 60 minutes after a pass from Lukasz Duszynski saw him rifle an unstoppable 25-yard drive into the net.

Hurst scored his second and Doune’s fourth after 76 minutes and with the game in added time, Doune made it 5-2 with another fine goal. Ross Macfarlane burst past three challenges to direct an inviting ball across the face of the goal where new signing Regan McDonald met it first-time to volley home.

Doune Castle: Davison, Macfarlane, McClure, Docherty, D Innes, Gibson (A Innes), Wilbert (Marshall), Hurst, Macdonald (McDonald), Inglis, Duszynski Substitutes: Tully, Hamilton.
