COULD IT BE THE

- DAVID OGILVIE

Stirling Albion are aiming to equal a club record of seven successive away wins when they travel to Borough Briggs to play Elgin City tomorrow.

The Binos beat Brechin City 2-0 at Glebe Park last weekend to make it six straight victories on their travels, something they last managed under Allan Moore in 2005/06.

Stirling’s best away sequence is seven on the spin, most recently in 1968/69 when Willie McFarlane was manager, and they have the chance to match that at Elgin.

Albion triumphed 2-1 on their last visit at the end of November but lost to Gavin Price’s side at Forthbank in January. City are a point in front of Stirling, with both teams chasing Queen’s Park and Cowdenbeath in what looks like a four-way fight for two play-off places.

The Binos go into the match after a 0-0 draw with Stenhousemuir on Tuesday and their hectic fortnight continues with a Forthbank double header against leaders Cove Rangers this coming Tuesday (March 10) and Annan Athletic on

Saturday March 14.

Rutkiewicz felt a share of the spoils was about right in midweek and was content to have taken something from a hard-fought contest on an energy-sapping pitch.

He said: “A draw was fair. I think both sides were lacking a bit of quality in the final third and were maybe a bit tired from the weekend.

The commitment and desire was there but there was a lack of zip and it felt like we hadn’t quite shaken Saturday’s legs off, even with the changes.

“If we had lost the game we would have felt aggrieved and I’m sure Stenhousemuir would have felt the same. Dylan Mackin did really well and Dylan Bikey (pictured) had his moments of magic but we didn’t have any sustained pressure. I’m happy enough with the point – it’s a clean sheet and it stops the rot at home.

“We made a few changes and a couple of them were enforced so we’ll see how everyone is ahead of the weekend. We have a strong squad and I don’t think that had a bearing on the result – Stenhousemuir brought in a lot of players in January and we stood up to them well.

“I don’t think the game was that much different to the last one at Ochilview but the difference that day was that we got the early goal.”

Looking ahead to a big game tomorrow, he added: “It’s a good away run and we are finding a way to win. We will go there full of confidence because of the run we are on but there’s no magic formula and it’s important there is not an expectancy.

“Elgin is a difficult place to go and it was a 93rd-minute winner the last time. It’s a huge game and I would take that again but it’s important to leave Elgin no further behind then when we arrive.”
