Thug punched pensioner to the ground

31-year-old awaits sentence for assault

- COURT REPORTER

A Stirling yob attacked a pensioner by punching him, pushing him, kicking him and throwing stones at him.

John Addison had been found guilty, following summary trial, of assaulting and injuring 75-year-old John Cordery at Milton Road, Whins of Milton, on November 21, 2018.

Thirty-one-year-old Addison was further convicted of maliciously throwing a mobile phone to the ground causing it to break on the same date – as well as a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting and swearing. Both these offences occurred at Addison’s Milton Road address.

Addison had repeatedly punched Mr Cordery on the head and body before seizing him by the body and pushing him on the body, causing him to fall to the ground, and repeatedly kicking him on the body and throwing stones at him.

However, he was found not guilty on charges of assaulting and injuring two females at his Milton Road address on November 21, 2018 – Roberta Ritchie and Karen McCormick.

It had been alleged that he had seized 70-year-old Ms Ritchie by the body, pushed her against shrubbery, held his arm against her throat, pushed her on the body and threw stones at her, as well as punching Ms McCormick.

When the matter called for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday of this week, Sheriff Robert Dickson said it was better for the sheriff who dealt with the trial, Sheriff Wyllie Robertson, to deal with sentencing.

He told Addison: “It’s important the sheriff who dealt with the trial is the person who assesses the seriousness or otherwise of your case. I will put it off to another date.”

The matter was deferred until July 1 to call beffore Sheriff Robertson. Bail was continued meantime.
