We’re keeping Cowie smiling

- CHRIS MARZELLA

Villagers in Cowie have stepped up to the mark to answer the call of elderly and vulnerable residents during the coronavirus lockdown.

Cowie Rural Action Group (CRAG) stepped in to “Keep Cowie Smiling”.

Clare Stevenson, chair and founding member said: “Our main aim over the past 10 years has been to support the village and our community. This current lockdown has given us the opportunity to step up and help those most in need and to keep community spirits high.

“In the first three weeks we have delivered over 1000 meals thanks to the support and generosity of Bella’s Takeaway and CRAG. We have had Colin Nicol Butchers deliver 60 family butcher packs to young families in the village. We have delivered 300 Easter eggs to every house in Cowie that has a rainbow in the window. This has been a great effort by a small and dedicated team.”

Niall Ewing’s grandmother Mags, is a CRAG volunteer who is currently in isolation. He wanted to help and has raised funds for CRAG by shaving his hair.

CRAG also took a delivery of Easter eggs and groceries from Morrisons which added to the packs going out this week.

On the first week of lockdown the CRAG Thursday Group, which brings together the older members of the community, didn’t go without as they received the meals on two wheels with local bikers Del and Lairdy, thanks to Mags, Louise and Murron.

“CRAG were overwhelmed by the rainbows and effort put in by all the kids and families,” added Clare. “Three hundred Easter eggs were delivered. Thank you to Erin for Making Cowie Smile and Iona for showing off her Easter egg.

“We are here to help our community. If you want to know more about CRAG follow us on Facebook or email C.R.A.G@ hotmail.com. Please don’t give donations to anyone without checking their identity and are genuinely from the group. Any queries should go direct to Clare by calling 01786 815835.”
