Mixedviews onuni’ssign response

-

On Friday the Observer told how Stirling University was forced to remove signage barring entry to campus grounds during the coronavirus lockdown after the local community raised concerns over access rights.

The story prompted a response from readers on our Facebook page.

Mark Allan said:“What this article doesn’t show is that the campus is home to residential students and this is the area that they would be exercising in. The signs were placed as a direct response to“locals” descending on the campus and having picnics and gatherings. Whilst the signs may have been in breach of the LRA (Land Reform Act) they wouldn’t have appeared if people simply followed government guidelines.”

Sandra Cubitt posted:“I walk in the ground of the university every day, living adjacent to it. The only people sitting around were students. Everyone walking has been adhering to social distancing guidelines. The university should be reaching out to the community. Make us feel welcome. After all we are all in this together.”

Ross Duthie added:“Lots of students sitting having a picnic when I was up recently with my autistic son. Sitting in groups of four. Place was actually very quiet other than that. Only walked past four other people and the car park was empty.”

Stirling Covidiots said:“I am a student staying on campus, and the picnics/barbecues were not locals, but rather groups of mainly foreign students. I tried explaining to a few that they would end up in trouble, but they claimed not to know about the two metre rules etc.”
