Prime heifers sold to 250p pkg for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch purchased by T Connor, Butchers, Troon and to £1504 for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by R Brown, Butchers, Stenhousem­uir

Prime bullocks sold to 238p pkg for a Limousin again from Learielaw purchased by T Johnston, Butchers, Falkirk and to £1513 for the same beast and for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyre­s, Auchtermuc­hty again purchased by T Johnston.

Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 208p pkg for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch and to £1357 from the same home.

Caley Marts had forward 438 store cattle at its fortnightl­y sale.

Bullocks averaged 215p pkg selling to 269p pkg for a pen of 15 Aberdeen Angus from AJ and G Orr, Lawhead of Stobwood, Forth and to £1100 for a pen of Limousins

from A Taylor and Son, Wester Carmuirs, Larbert.

Heifers averaged 211p pkg selling to 289p pkg for a British Blue from RM Dunlop, Middlepark, Dalry and to £1300 for the same beast.

Black and Whites sold to 159p pkg from W and E Cook, Balcachie, Girvan and to £650 from Avoncrook Farms, Westfield, Bathgate.

TUESDAY, APRIL 21

Caley Marts sold 1619 spring lambs, prime hoggets, ewes and tups at their weekly sale.

Spring lambs (13) sold to a top of £120 from J Wilson, Balhelvie (twice) for a Suffolk X and a Charolais X, also a Texel X from I and G Farmer, Balbedie. Top price per kg went to Balbedie at 245ppkg for a Texel X.

A mixed show of sheep forward resulted in an overall average of 186.4ppkg (-10p on the week).

Export hoggets (40-44kg) which were short of requiremen­ts would sell regularly between £2 per kg or £2.20per kg. Heavy hoggets were hardest to sell this season averaging 160p pkg.

Top price of the day went to JM McDonald, Newbigging for a pen of four Beltex at 45kg at £119. RA Campbell and Son, Meikle Seggie had top price per kg for a pen of three Beltex at 43kg, fetching a final bid of £115 or 266p pkg.

Also forward were 439 cast ewes and rams. A larger show was forward, trade remained steady however buyers would be more hesitant.

Heavy ewes averaged £105.23 selling to £158 for a pen of tremendous Texels from JAC Stewart, Kininmonth, Ceres. Export ewes averaged £67.72 selling to £95 for Cheviots from R Bell and Partners, Craigo, Milnathort. Cast rams sold to £130 for Suffolks from R Brewster and Son, Broom, Causewayhe­ad.
