DUNBLANE BOYS’ BRIGADE CD DELIVERS SOME MUSICAL CHEER

-

More than 250 households where elderly residents are isolating or shielding have been brightened up with a musical gift from Dunblane Boys’Brigade’s band.

The residents of all Dunblane’s sheltered housing, retirement flats and care homes have received a copy of the BB Band’s recently-produced CD as a gift to bring some variety and music at a time when the band can’t entertain in its usual ways.

The band, which has around 35 boys normally receiving free instruments and tuition each week, recorded a CD as a fundraiser to help with Project Malawi, which saw 17 boys help to construct and renovate classrooms at a primary school last summer. However, some money was left over.

BB Captain and the band’s conductor Fraser Boyd, explained:“We made a CD with the help of Forth Valley College music tech students and it went on sale in November 2018.

“But when you make a CD, 500 is the minimum run so we had lots left over and with most music bought or streamed online these days, the remaining stock was unlikely to sell.

“We realised, though, that one group of people who were likely to still use CDs was our older neighbours, many of whom are unable to get out of the house at the moment, so we decided to keep our BB boys active and members of the band safely picked up parcels of CDs to deliver around Dunblane during their daily permitted exercise time.”

As well as the CD deliveries, BB musicians are joining in with musical entertainment from their doorstep as part of the NHS Clap for Carers on Thursday nights.

“It was fitting that when we had the CD cover designed it was in the style of an Air Mail envelope. We never envisaged we’d be delivering them through letterboxes,”added Fraser.

“We do have a handful of CDs left if anyone else would like to let us know of someone shielding who would like one, or it can be downloaded from the links on our website.”
