Medical centre is to be turned into flats

-

A former medical practice in Stirling is to be turned into flats.

Viewfield Medical Centre was among a number of surgeries which moved to Stirling’s new GP and Minor Injuries Centre within Stirling Health and Care Village in 2018.

However, their former premises at 3 Viewfield Place off Barnton Street is now being turned over for residential purposes.

Stirling Council planners have granted conditional consent to Steven Gilvear to convert the practice into three two-bedroom flats and for a change of use from commercial to residential.

The B-listed building is within a terrace in a Conservation Area and thought to have been built around 1835.

In their decision, the planners said:“There are garden perimeter stone walls, which are in poor condition, with sections requiring attention.

“The brick retaining walls to the entrance steps from Goosecroft Road are showing signs of severe decay and instability and require to be partially, if not completely, rebuilt in re- used or matching brick and detailing (as close as reasonably practicable). The garden gate is missing and it is proposed to install a new one manufactured and fitted once the walling is repaired, with all detailing to match the adjacent gate of no 4 Viewfield Place.

“The proposals also involve replacement windows/doors and refurbishment works to doors and windows, as well as alterations to the roof to form the required ventilation.

“Number 3 Viewfield Place forms one property within a terrace of townhouses, numbers 1 to 10, are constructed in mirrored pairs of units within The Stirling Town Conservation Area. The terrace has had renovations carried out over the years and number 3 shows good quality repair work.

“The proposals represent an appropriate use for the site and involve a high degree of preservation and restoration of specific historic features such as the windows/doors, the roof and walls.

“The building was originally a residential property, therefore conversion back to residential can be supported, similar to the neighbouring properties.”
