Living room gig to help Eilidh’s fund
Songwriter is performing live on Facebook
Stirling singer and songwriter Greig Taylor is performing a special show on Saturday, May 9, in aid of the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund.
Live on Facebook from his own living room during lockdown, the singer hopes to raise spirits, and a lot of money, by performing songs from the hit movie ‘The Commitments’.
All donations from the show will go to the charity, set up by the local teenager’s family after she sadly lost her fight against cancer in March 2010 just nine days before her 16th birthday.
Since then Eilidh’s family have been working tirelessly to build a stunning countryside respite holiday home in the Stirling area for young people and their families who are going through, went through or sadly like themselves lost a child to cancer. The dream has now almost been realised, with the new building at Munnieston Farm at Thornhill almost complete. Once it opens the charity will also need ongoing funds to maintain and run it.
Greig said: “Times are tough for everyone right now and this charity generate a large proportion of their fundraising via public gatherings and events, which are currently banned under lockdown rules, so there is a need to continue momentum by generating funds to complete the building.”
Greig is no stranger to making music for charity. He is the man behind a 2017 charity single, the uplifting version of the Bruce Springsteen classic Dancing In The Dark. It raised awareness of the positive mental health benefits of singing, and dancing. All proceeds from the single continue to be donated to SAMH - the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
Organiser Frances Cummings, Greig’s aunt, who raises funds every year for the Eilidh Brown
Memorial Fund, said: “I’m so excited about this show and confident we can not only raise funds but also raise the spirit of everyone via music during these unique times. We are so grateful to Greig for doing this for free, especially as we know how difficult financially it is at this time for artists like himself who have seen their gig schedules decimated by coronavirus. We are all aware how important it is to keep the momentum going at this time to help the completion of the house.”
Eilidh’s dad Gordon Brown said: “In these difficult times we have had a drastic downturn in our fundraising. We had planned to open the house and welcome the first families this summer, however this has had to be put on hold.
Our planned fundraising events have had to be cancelled and we really are grateful for Greig and Frances to choose us to benefit from his fabulous ‘Still Got: The Commitments’ concert.
“Greig is an amazing performer and Frances is such an inspiration. She held a ladies event earlier this year and raised over £6000 for us. We would urge everyone to tune in for what I’m sure will be a great night of entertainment.”
James Russell, station manager at Stirling City Radio said: “We worked with Greig when he released his amazing charity single and will air an interview with him next week to promote his latest music based charity initiative.”
The concert goes out on Facebook live at 7pm on Saturday, May 9.
