Heritage trail sees progress

-

Killearn is a step closer to achieving its own signed heritage trail.

The community project, which involves locals, schools and businesses, was initiated to “explore and explain” the history of the village and promote the use of footpaths and cycle paths in the area.

It also hopes to link with the West Highland Way.

Now Killearn Community Council has lodged a series of advertising applications with Stirling Council planners seeking approval for designs and locations for interpretation boards and signage for the trail.

Sites for the information boards include: next to and southeast of 32 Main Street; next to and east of 1 Beech Drive; northeast of Beech Drive Nursery, Beech Drive; next to and west of Abbeyfield House, Beech Drive; opposite 5 The Square; northeast of Buchanan Monument, Balfron Road; and the car park next to Killearn Village Hall, Balfron Road.

The trail will lead residents or visitors through the village, past intriguing sites and finish with refreshments at local eateries.

Also included in the project is provision of an app with further historical information with future phases promoting the use of the paths network and encouraging trade for local businesses, as well as improving local trails and developing a new route down to the West Highland Way.

Members of Killearn Heritage Trail group and the community council had previously met with council planners to discuss locations and designs for the boards, which may include lectern styles and posts.
