Grace’s lockdown fitness raises £1.2k
A Denny youngster has raised almost £1200 so far for Strathcarron Hospice.
Ten-year-old Grace Malcolm, a P6 pupil at St Patrick’s Primary School in Denny, wanted to do something to help others in her community during the lockdown period.
She then registered on the Strathcarron Hospice site, put in her fundraising idea and set up a page to do a Lockdown 5K walk, run or cycle.
Having done it herself Grace, who lives with her parents and two older brothers, then nominated others to do it, sharing it on Facebook and twitter so that many of her friends and their families took part too.
Mum Clare said: “Before the schools closed Grace was going to raise money for a school charity as part of a faith award at school but with the schools closing down so abruptly she didn’t get a chance to start. She still wanted to do some fundraising and with local charities struggling she thought the Strathcarron
Hospice was an important cause.
“She told me ‘I don’t want to see Strathcarron struggle to do all the wonderful things it does for patients and their families just because they can’t afford to do it’. We are so proud of her and her thoughtfulness and kindness to help others. It also means for us, as parents, she has something really positive to focus on during this pandemic. Her Irish dancing class held a Zoom bingo recently and donated £160 to her fundraising page which brought her closer to the £1000 mark.”
Grace, who says she has been inspired to keep on fundraising for the hospice in the future, said: “I want to thank everyone for being so kind.”
