Real chance to make our planet better
Dear Editor It is nearly three years since my letter specific to the Friends of the Earth Clean Air initiative 2017.
Having stood with XR protesters before Old Viewforth awaiting Stirling Council’s declaration of climate emergency, I hope fresh focus may be brought to clean air, even in the enforced incarceration caused by Covid-19.
Shutdown has created, particularly in its first stage, traffic silence, highlighted birdsong, improved air quality, resulting from huge reduction of particulate and nitrous oxide pollution.
Reflection afforded by our isolation allows us to glimpse an opportunity to do things differently after economic life picks up again. Perhaps affording a chance for Stirling Council to lead responsibly rather than crank up the tarnished machinery promoted by corporate concerns.
Recognition of climate emergency is a definite step towards environmentally responsible policies from government - both local and national.
Stirling Council is asked to build on this declaration with policy that is more harmonious in relationships to our planet.

In the Stirling Observer
(May 6), you announced that the Stirling Marathon would be postponed until 2021. I would like to ask the organisers and councillors to use this time to consider the route of the marathon.
In Dunblane that morning, many people will have no access to churches, buses or trains. The Doune Road is closed, with a cynical sign requesting us to use alternative routes.
There are no alternative routes since all the minor roads in that area of Dunblane lead on to the Doune Road. This affects hundreds of houses.
I would ask all concerned to show more consideration for the local community .

Speculation onviruscases
Dear Editor
We’re told each day of the number of new cases of Covid-19 in Scotland. Since we have been locked down since March 23, is it reasonable to assume that these new victims did not in fact ‘stay home’ after all?
