BINOS ARE SHAPING UP

- DAVID OGILVIE

Stirling Albion manager Kevin Rutkiewicz is happy with the way his squad is shaping up for next season.

The Binos boss has so far resigned Paul McLean, Jordan McGregor, Kyle Banner, Dom Docherty, Dylan Mackin and Sean Heaver, while Blair Currie was already under contract for 2020/21.

Rutkiewicz, who celebrated his 40th birthday on Sunday, said: “I feel we are in a pretty good place at the moment with the ones we have already announced and new deals for a few more of the current squad should be confirmed shortly.

“That will give us a good base and we will then be looking to bring in a number of players in the summer.

“As I’ve said before, there were plenty of positives in the season just ended but we need a better balance in the squad. Obviously there is a lot of uncertainty at the moment because of the coronavirus but we are trying to plan the best we can.

“With the league reconstruction talks breaking down last week, it at least gives us clarity of how the divisions will look next season, patient before being handed a top-team place and turned in some impressive performances before dropping out of the side in the second half of the season.

Rutkiewicz said: “I believe that Sean Heaver can become a Stirling Albion cult hero over the next two or three seasons – he is an unpredictable player but he is electric and exciting. He has got pace to burn and a great level of skill – his goal against

Strathspey Thistle in the Scottish Cup was outstanding with the way he took the ball down and beat the keeper.

“Sean was a victim of players like Dylan Bikey, Darryl Duffy and Dylan Mackin playing well in the second half of the season but the six months he has had in senior football is going to stand him in good stead and I think we have a gem – he is a player the fans love.”
