Kirsty bakes to say big thank you

-

A Balfron girl is turning into a teenage Mary Berry by baking tasty treats for deserving frontline workers.

Kirsty Stewart, 15, came up with the idea a few weeks into lockdown and started baking for the NHS as neighbour and friend of the family Tracy Mathieson is a paramedic at Balfron Ambulance Station.

Now Kirsty, who has just started S5 at Balfron High School, has expanded the effort with the help of Strathblane deli/ coffee shop Coffee at the Wilsons.

Mum Heather said:“Kirsty thought some home baking would be a nice way for her to thank everyone for everything they are doing during this pandemic.

“The ambulance crew have been very grateful as she hands in her baking once, sometimes twice a week. Coconut and jam slices are definitely their favourite.

“Lemon drizzle cake was handed in to Balfron Police Station last week and another delivery is being made to them.”

Before lockdown, Kirsty’s parents supported the new deli/coffee shop Coffee at the Wilsons.

“I was in their shop about five weeks ago,” added Heather,“and they asked why I was buying so much baking ingredients so I told them the story.

“The following week, Kirsty was supplied with some ingredients from them free of charge which she was absolutely delighted with.

“Last week her dad filled his boot with flour, butter, coconut, puff pastry, caster sugar and much more.

“Paul and Jim from the deli have been very supportive of her and she is so grateful.”
