Caley Marts sold 139 cattle comprising of 83 bullocks, heifers and young bulls and 56 OTM cattle.

Prime bullocks sold to 245p pkg for a Limousin from W Dandie, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk and to £1572 for the same beast. Prime heifers sold to 232p pkg for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canobie purchased by HA Black, Butcher, Stirling and to £1457 for a Limousin from J Collier, Dullomuir, Blairadam purchased by HA Black. Bulls (under 30 months) sold to 208p pkg for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch and to £1285 from the same home.

Other leading prices: Bullocks per head - £1512 Croftgarry; £1477 Saltoun Home Farm; £1466 Loanrigg; £1463 Penston (Orr). Bullocks per kg - 242p Blairhall; 235p Penston; 228p Penston, Nethermyre­s and Saltoun Home Farm. Heifers per head - £1452 Brockwoodl­ees (twice); £1431 Penston; £1415 and £1404 Croftgarry. Also forward were 56 OTM cattle. They averaged 133p pkg selling to 156p pkg for an Aberdeen Angus from Carskiey Estate, Southend, Campbeltow­n and to £1230 for a Limousin from A Galbraith, Upper Kinniel, Linlithgow. Dairy cows averaged 91p pkg selling to 108p pkg from W and M Wyllie, Broompark, Torphichen and to £810 from the same home.

Other leading prices: Beef OTMs per head - £1220 Ballater Drive; £1140 Carriston; £1120 Wester Middleton. Beef OTMs per kg - 150p and 148p Carskiey; 147p New Peninver and Lomond Muir; 146p Upper Kinniel; 145p Carriston.

Calves sold to £220 for a Beef Shorthorn Bullock from J Gilmour and Son, Drumelzier, Denny.

Caley Marts also sold 313 ewes with lambs at foot at their first sale of breeding sheep this year.

Top price of the day went to AD Kinnimonth, Kinnighall­en, Aberfeldy for a pen of Texel ewes with twin lambs fetching a final bid of £200. Mr Kinnimonth also had dearest trade per life with a Texel ewe and single Texel lamb selling for £87 per life (£174). Caley Marts sold 664 spring lambs, prime hoggets, ewes and tups at their weekly sale.

Spring lambs (72) sold to a top of 305p pkg for a 42kg Beltex X from HT Shanks, Easter Cash, Strathmigl­o and averaged 259.2p pkg (-2.3p on the week). Top price per head also went to Easter Cash for a 56kg Suffolk X at £134.

Also forward were 438 prime hoggets and clean sheep. Prime hoggets sold to a top of 262p pkg for a 39kg Beltex from RA Campbell andSons, Meikle Seggie with the overall average levelling out at 199p (+5.4p on the week). Top price per head went to JR MacGregor, Dyke Farm at £115 for a pen of 59kg Texels.

Clean sheep (two teeth up) sold to £99 Cowdens and to 195p pkg Raecruick. Also forward were 154 cast ewes and rams. Overfat ewes were a harder commodity to sell. Leaner ewes sold dearer on the week and more could have sold to sellers’ advantage.

Heavy ewes averaged £101.42 selling to £116 for a pen of eight Texels from HT Shanks, Easter Cash, Strathmigl­o. Export wwes averaged £65.08 selling to £78 for Cheviots from AD Miller, Bridgehous­e, Westfield. Cast rams sold to £121 for Texels from HT Shanks.
