Santa? In his shorts? Out in May?

Special appearance for food fund

- KAIYA MARJORIBANKS

Santa Claus came out of hibernation at the weekend to do his bit for the lockdown effort.

The big man donned his red hat but could be forgiven for swapping his suit for some shorts and a Hawaiian shirt on the hottest weekend of the year so far - and the effort was worth it.

Stirling and Bridge of Allan Round Table had persuaded him to take part in a special project as they accompanied him around local streets.

They had organised Santa’s Summer Food Bank Collection, with their popular giant sleigh, complete with music and Father Christmas himself, travelling around to collect food donations from people’s doorsteps for local food banks.

The sleigh was in Bridge of Allan on Saturday then Causewayhead, Strathallan Park and Forth Park on Sunday.

Round Table spokesman Ian Snodgrass said: “Everyone at the Round Table would like to send a huge thank you to all the people who have supported us over the two days.

“We would also like to thank Santa for taking some time out to come along and help us in supporting people who are struggling during the coronavirus crisis.

“Santa told us that all the people who came out to see him will be put at the very top of his nice list for this year.”

Anyone who missed the sleigh, or who has some more to give, can still donate through the Round Table’s JustGiving page at http:// stirlingboaroundtable/donate

All the donations are in the process of being given out to help people in need.

Among the organisations to benefit will be Bridge of Allan Larder, Ladies of the Rock, Heart of Braehead, Polmaise Community Council and Cowie Rural Action Group and food banks in and around the Stirling area.
