Friends pay tribute after river tragedy

- STUART MCFARLANE

Tributes have poured in from friends on campus following the death of Indian student Prajwal Guhagarkar in Stirling last week.

The 21-year-old, who was studying at Stirling University, was the subject of an extensive search by emergency teams after reports that he had fallen into the River Forth while returning from a night out in the early hours of June 6.

But the search efforts led to the tragic discovery of Prajwal’s body on Thursday morning, which led to an outpouring of grief and messages from those close to him.

One of those messages came from the university’s cricket club, of which Prajwal was a member.

Representatives laid a cap and a floral tribute to Prajwal near the scene before posting a heartfelt tribute on social media.

The message said: “Today we met in memory of one of our own.

“We tragically lost Prajwal Guhagarkar this week in a terrible accident. Here is the cap for you PJ that you never got in person.

“Wherever you are now keep running in hard. Love, your team.”

Messages also flooded in from across the Scottish cricket community, with Cricket Scotland and the cricket club at Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University both posting tributes online.

The note of support from across the university was echoed by the university’s student union, who posted: “We were extremely sad to hear about the passing of Prajwal Pandharinath

Guhagarkar after a tragic accident.

“He was a much loved and valued member of our student community.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.”

On social media individuals who knew Prajwal also paid personal tributes.

Vidhi Dedhia said: “Devastating news. He was really an amazing schoolmate.

“Deep condolences to his family. You’ll always be remembered, friend.”

And Hasan M A Behbehani wrote: “Devastating news. PJ was part of the Allstars FC family in the Intramural League.

“Not only was he a true fighter but also very friendly, always had a smile on his face. He will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.”

Wherever you are now keep running in hard. Love, your team.
