Carers go above and beyond
The team at Wallace View care home in Stirling have been spending lockdown keeping up residents’spirits - including keeping a couple of almost seven decades in touch with each other.
Bob and Jean McAlpine have been married for 66 years and had never been apart until Jean moved in to Wallace View.
Even during lockdown, however, Bob, 89, has visited daily to wave to his 85-year-old wife - and was delighted to receive a special gift from her.
Their son said:“The staff at Wallace View are incredible. They even delivered a letter to my dad in the shape of my mum’s hand - she can’t write any more - with a message saying she’s in good health, good spirits and loves and misses him.
“That has given him, aged 89, a much- needed boost. They’ve been married for 66 years and he had not spent a night on his own in their house until she had to move into care.’’
The staff have also been busy entertaining residents.
At the start of the month awardwinning Elvis tribute artist Johnny-Lee Memphis entertained the residents in the sunshine while they enjoyed ice lollies and refreshments. All the staff - and even neighbours - took part by dressing for Jailhouse Rock.
More recently the home’s entertainer Liz Clarke was joined 14-year-old Emma Murray as staff and neighbours dressed up as ABBA .
Care home manager Sheila Murray said:“I am very proud of the staff, residents and families and local community for their response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Staff have responded well to all challenges faced.
“Our regular entertainers have stepped up and adapted to these changes and have continued to entertain the residents.”
