Mags Haney’s nephew

- COURT REPORTER

A great-nephew of dead crime clan matriarch Mags Haney has been jailed for threatening to murder police.

Thomas Haney, 33, subjected beat bobbies to a tirade of threats and abuse as he was being handcuffed by officers investigating a disturbance outside a bingo hall.

As he was placed in a police van he challenged them: “Don’t f***ing touch me. I’ll fight you both.

“As soon as these cuffs are off

I’m going to stick the heid on you. I’ll murder you when I get out of these cuffs.”

He continued: “I know your face. I’ll get you one day. I’ll smack your head in. Once these cuffs are off I’ll f***ing do you.”

A sheriff said that, knowing Haney’s violent record, the officers could have had good reason to worry.

Prosecutor Susan Campell said the incident happened just after 4.30pm on Tuesday, June 16, outside the Carlton bingo hall in Allan Park, Stirling.

She said it was clear Haney was under the influence of alcohol and he began to act aggressively towards officers as soon as he was spoken to.

Police had to restrain him on the ground and place him in handcuffs.

Haney, of Hawthorn Crescent, Raploch, Stirling, who was on two bail orders at the time of the incident, appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court by video link from Falkirk Police Station.

He pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive behaviour, shouting and swearing, and threatening police.

Solicitor-advocate Krista Johnston, defending, said: “His recollection of these matters, as a result of alcohol he had consumed, is particularly vague.

“He had been ruminating over matters that had been tragic in his personal life.”

Jailing Haney for six months, Sheriff Derek Hamilton told him: “Every time that the police have
