After the disappoint­ment of the cancellati­on of last week’s first event due to torrential rain and flooded greens, a huge field of 327 players competed on Friday and Saturday in the Spring Meeting, Club Championsh­ips Qualifiers first round and Nimmo Cup Qualifier. The CSS was 72 on Friday and 71 on Saturday.

A brilliant three under par 69 returned from Sean McAuley with birdies at first, second, fifth, and 15th and an eagle on 13 compiled halfs of 34/35 to win Class One. However, Sean narrowly lost out on better inward half to James Donaldson for the Spring Meeting Scratch medal - Jas had a haul of six birdies at 1, 5, 13, 14,16 and 18 for an inward three under par 33 and also 69.

Both players lead the Club Championsh­ip strokeplay and also the 16 players vying for a Club Championsh­ip matchplay spot entering round two next weekend.

Grant McBeath took second place in Class One with halfs of 39/37 and Russel Kerr was third on net 68.

Gary Harvey won Class Two on net 67 with nine pars and a birdie at 13th in halfs of 40/40. Hugh Waters was second on net 68 and Iain Wallace third beating Jamie Tierney on the better last six with both players on net 69.

In only his second season as a member, Calum McMillan won the Spring Meeting Handicap Prize and also Class Two on net 65. With a high handicap Calum returned a par at the second and 10 bogeys. Alan McDonald - playing on Friday - took second place on net 67 and Tom Caldwell was third on net 68.

Leading Seniors Club Championsh­ip Qualifiers after first round - Thomas Moore 74, Murray Ferguson 75, Kevin

Brunton 76, Ian Matthews 77 and David Dryland 78. Net scores of 70 and below and some 71s were making the 32 qualifiers for the Nimmo Cup.

This weekend is the second round qualifier for the Club Championsh­ips, Victory Cup and King George V Qualifier (eight qualifiers).
