Callander and West Perthshire Rotary Club have been beefing up their support of charity and local business over the lockdown.

In March the club donated £1000 to foodbank charity Start Up Stirling and £500 to Children’s Hospice Association, Scotland.

They also received a £300 Rotary grant, which they spent at local butcher D Campbell.

Club president Jen Shearer said: “Colin and his colleagues prepared a huge number of frozen packs of mince and sausages, which were then donated to Start Up Stirling for inclusion in their weekly home deliveries.”

Jen added: “It was gratifying for us to be able to achieve this double benefit from a relatively small sum of money.

“When we saw the quantities of meat being delivered we suspected that Campbells had included some extra donations of their own.”

The butchers have been doing home deliveries since March.

Start Up Stirling has been delivering around 150 food boxes each week to people in the Stirling area.

Callander Rotary has not held any in-person meetings since March but there have been monthly Zoom meetings of the club council.

Zoom also facilitated the handover of the club’s chain of office from Mike Kay to incoming president Jen Shearer.

She said: “In the coming months we plan to organise periodic online meetings for all of our Rotarian colleagues to join us to enjoy hearing a speaker or perhaps participating in a quiz, chat night or other entertainment, just to ensure we all keep in touch with each other.

“We are unlikely to hold actual, physical meetings for quite some time to come.”
