One way system in place to ensure social distancing

-

Stirling Bus Station reopened to the public on Monday with additional safety measures in place.

Stirling Council has been working in recent weeks to prepare the site, making a number of changes to ensure passengers are safe when waiting for their bus.

The public transport facility, which has been closed to the public since the COVID- 19 lockdown began in March, is again open seven days week.

Members of the public can access the bus station building from 9am-5.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from 10am-5pm on Sundays, with a one-way system will be in place to help maintain physical distancing.

In the interests of public safety, face coverings must be worn when entering the building and a hand sanitiser station will be available at the entrance to the building.

Ticket sales and the information kiosk are open: Monday to Friday 9am -1pm, 2pm-4.45pm; and Saturdays 9am- 1pm, 1.30pm- 4.15pm. Toilets are accessible from 9am5pm and are subject to additional cleaning measures, however the café will reopen at a later date.

The council’s environment and housing convener Councillor Jim Thomson, said:

“Stirling Bus Station is a key facility for so many people living and working in the city who use public transport as part of their everyday lives.

“Our priority for the reopening has always been to ensure passengers can feel safe and confident when using the bus station and its facilities, and we were pleased we could finally reopen its doors.

“Public transport is an important element in our fight against climate change, and I would encourage people to choose to travel by bus, helping reduce both their own and the city’s carbon footprint.”

Vice convener Councillor Danny Gibson added: “We have put in place appropriate measures to assist with social distancing and will carry out additional cleaning so that passengers can feel reassured about potential health issues.

” We would like to remind everyone that it is mandatory to wear face coverings when on public transport for the safety of all who use them.”
