Film your feats for this year’s Stirling Highland Games
Hardy participants are being sought for next month’s virtual Stirling Highland Games.
The August 15 event has gone online due to the coronavirus pandemic and entrants can take part by posting their feats on social media (#Flingitathome) from Thursday, July 23.
The games’organisers have put together a range of traditional competitions which will stream on Facebook on Saturday, August 15 including the caber, weight over the bar and hammer.
The 2020 event will also include the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Association band Balaklava Pipes and Drums.
Stirling Highland Games, which had been scheduled to take place at Stirling Sports Village, usually welcomes up to 8000 visitors from across Scotland, the UK and overseas.
Stirling Highland Games president Matt Mcgrandles said this week:“organisers of the games will be showcasing the best of Stirling and have put together a range of entertainment which will be streamed online. They have also come up with a way to get viewers at home involved in the activities.
“We are encouraging participants to get someone to film them giving one of the Highland Games events a go. Each event will be demonstrated on Stirling Highland Games social media accounts this week, but please be responsible and take care when throwing.
“All entrants will be able to download a Stirling Highland Games certificate saying‘i took part in Stirling Highland Games 2020’.
“There will also be family and group tickets to Stirling Highland Games 2021 for some lucky winners and one invite to meet the Chieftain at Stirling Highland Games 2021.”
The requirements are for each clip to include the participants name, where they are from, and the category they are entering.
They would then post clip(s) on social media, tag Stirling Highland Games and hashtag #Flingitathome by August 2.
Selected clips, including winners, will be shown in the category countdowns on The Best of Stirling programme streamed on August 15.
The cancellation of this year’s games had been described by Matt earlier this year as a very difficult decision to make as 2020 marks the event’s 150th anniversary.
Tickets for the 2020 Highland Games can be carried over to next year’s event.
