Another busy weekend started off with the Senior Gents Nine Hole Stableford where the consistent Gordon Darlington won with his 20 point total just pipping Alastair Donald on a countback. Third place went to Brian Paterson with 19 points. Gordon Darlington is also leading the way in the early stages of the Senior Order of Merit with 20 points and is also joint leader of the Seniors Eclectic with Brian Paterson both players having 24 points.

In Saturday’s Monthly Medal James Inglis proved too good for the field winning with a fantastic net 59. James’s score was three better than Lewis Cowie who was second with a net 62 and third place went to Scott Mackenzie on net 64. The best gross score was this week returned by Kyle Mcclung who score an excellent one under par 65. Leading the way in the Saturday Eclectic on net 53 are Louis Dowley, Ian Houston, Roberto Zanelli and Scott Mackenzie.

In Sunday’s Gents White Tee Nine Hole Stableford, Graeme Bowden managed to win on a countback from Jim Black both scoring 17 points however Jim currently leads the Sunday Eclectic on 22 points.

DUNBLANE NEW

Another busy week once again saw large entries in each of the competitio­ns.

On Sunday there was a 50 per cent increase from recent years in the entries for the 36-hole Ballantine Medal and on 143 (73/70), Alan Lockhart retained the medal he won last year.

In the Scratch Class, Craig Mcgann recovered from a mediocre first round to take first spot on 146 and best second round (76/70). Runner up was Harry Barton (75/71) and better second round than than Gavin Denham (73/73).. Fourth place went to Steven Aitken on 147 (75/72).

Euan Douglas (8) won the Handicap Class on 135 (67/68) ahead of Stephen Murray (5) on 138 (65/73). Stephen’s first round of 65 was the best net score on the day and was the leading scratch score after the first round. Third place went to Christophe­r Macdonald (10) on 139 (68/71) with Stuart Campbell (4) in fourth place on 140 (72/68) and better second round than Luke Hendren (9) (71/69).

On Friday and Saturday as a result of the late start to the season the competitio­n included the Infirmary Trophy, the Old Club Trophy first round qualifying and the first round of the Handicap Stroke Play Championsh­ip.

Winner of the Infirmary Trophy with an eight under par 61 was Gary Thomson (25) despite finishing with a triple bogey eight but with eight pars and double bogeys at 6, 13 and 16. Best scratch score was a one under par 68 returned on Friday by Craig Mcgann with birdies at 1, 4, 14 and 18.

In the First Class the winner was Anthony Stanger (10) on 66 with birdies at 1 and 8 and a double bogey at 14. Runner up was Iain Christie (6) on 67. Ten players then returned 68 but third place went to Malcolm Scott (5) with a better inward half than Christophe­r Macdonald (11) who had a better inward half than the others.

Owen Hutchison (13) won the Second Class on 66 including birdies at 9 and 11. Runner up on 67 was Calum Ferguson (13) with Jim Sloan (14) third on 68. Five players then returned 69 but fourth place went to Stewart Taylor (13) with a better last six.

In the Third Class Joe Higgins (18) won on 64 with Iain Mccallum (19) second on 65. Third place went to Steve Birnie (25) on 67 and a better inward half than Stuart Reid (20).

There was the biggest entry ever in the Wednesday Stableford of 191 players. Winner of First Class was Ian Campbell (11) on 44 points which included a hole in one at the 3rd. Runner up was Allan Higgins (6) on 41 points and third spot went to Stuart Mcdonald (11) on 40 points. Five players then returned 39 points but fourth place went to James Mcintyre (10) with a best last six.

In the Second Class the winner was David Maclennan (13) on 42 points and best last six, including a birdie at 17 but a double bogey at 18, than Finlay Mason (15). Third place went to Hal Mills (16) on 41 points and better inward half than John Young (15).

Brian Abel (19) won the Third Class on 41 points and better inward half than John Douglas (19). Third place went to Scott Muir (17) on 40 points and better inward half than Lloyd Hardman (18).

As well as Ian Campbell’s hole in one, Ian Docherty had a hole in one at 14.

There will be a Yellow Tee Stableford today (Wednesday) and on Saturday there will be the Captain/pros Day when there will be a break from medal competitio­n for a fun round of golf. Tee times in fourballs should be reserved on the On line Booking System.

Senior section competitio­ns continued last week with some 63 players vying to win the reschedule­d Rae Mcfarlane Trophy on Wednesday, July 15. Congratula­tions go to Kevin Preston who won the trophy after countback with a score of net 65.

STIRLING

It has been busy at Stirling with 302 players playing over the weekend in the Club Championsh­ip Strokeplay, Club Championsh­ip second round qualifier, Victory Cup and King James V matchplay qualifier. The CSS was 71 on both days.

Players enjoyed an excellent presented course with fast true putting surfaces.

Jas Donaldson added a one over par 73 to his first round 69 for a winning score of 142 to win the Club Championsh­ip Strokeplay. He had birdies at 1, 4, 9 and 18 in halfs of 35/38 and is Number 1 seed in the Club Championsh­ip Matchplay Qualifiers (16)

Joint first round leader Sean Mcauley struggled to an 83 however still managed to secure a place in the Top 16.

Former Stirling Albion player and boss now driving instructor John Philliben easily navigated his way round on Saturday to win the Victory Cup. John, out first at 7am enjoyed the best of the weekend weather and capitalise­d with a haul of four birdies - at 2, 13,16 and 18 and holed an nine-iron at the 11th for an eagle two in a career best score of three under par 69 (net 63) in halfs of 36/33. John returned to Class 1 with a lowest ever handicap of 5.1.

Barry Paterson added an impressive net 66 to an opening 70 to win the Watson Cameron Rosebowl with a score of 133. He had an amazing finish of 3, 2, 6 (birdie, eagle, bogey) for a four over par 76 and leads the qualfiers for Club Championsh­ip Handicap Matchplay.

Ever steady John Colquhoun carded a tidy one under par 71 with birdies at 2,10,11 and 17 and only three dropped shots at 6, 7 and 9 for second place in Class 1. Stuart Cunningham beat club champion David Oates on the bih for third place - both players on 69.

Scott Monteith playing on Friday won Class 2 on the bih with a tidy card of 14 pars and a birdie at 18 for a four over par 76 (net 66). Barry Paterson was second and Euan Mclean third.

Rory Mackenzie won Class 3 and lost out on a shot to John Philliben for the Victory Cup with a net 64. Three double bogeys at 1, 4 and 5 were offset with birdies at 11 and 16. Dominic Mcnally was second on net 66 and Mark Kennedy was third on net 70.
