Fashion fundraiser to go ahead at last

-

A fashion fundraiser for Strathcarron Hospice and the Beatson Cancer Charity is set to take place in Blanefield after being postponed during lockdown.

Jo Waterfield had organised Fizz, Fun, Fashion for Funds, scheduled for the end of May, as a thank you for her ongoing treatment at the Beatson for a rare form of cancer.

People were asked to donate their no longer needed designer and good quality clothing for the event. Volunteers throughout the community gathered in clean, little or unworn high quality women’s wear and accessories including coats, jackets, dresses, skirts, trousers, formal and wedding wear, shoes, hats, scarves, handbags and costume jewellery.

The fundraiser has now been adapted following the ease of lockdown and is to be held in the garden of 12 Kirkhouse Road, Blanefield, G63 9DA, on Friday August 7, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 between 10am and 6pm, under three or four gazebos.

No more than six people are booked in for each half hour slot, which can be done by conacting Connie Lynch on 07751802755.

Once a slot has been booked, Connie will send a note of how the event will operate with Covid protection in mind - for example, wearing of masks will be necessary.

Jo, 58, first became ill just over a decade ago, initially thinking she may have ovarian cancer.

However, it later emerged she had pseudomyxoma peritonei - a form of cancer she and her colleagues had never heard of despite four decades as a nurse herself, including in research.

She later discovered it was the same cancer stylish Hollywood and fashion icon Audrey Hepburn was diagnosed with, leading to the idea for the fundraiser.

Jo said:“there are lots of gorgeous clothes and accessories that will need new homes, as well as some great donations for the silent auction and raffle.”

A sum of £800 raised so far has been sent to Strathcarron.
