Louise lifts ladies championship title
Former County champion Louise Fox defeated Vicki Stevenson 3&2 to win the Ladies Championship Final.
In a tight match, both players missed birdie chances at the 1st and they shared birdie wins at 2 and 3 to remain level.
Louise took the lead at the 4th hole with a par and the next two were halved in par before Louise increased her lead to two up with a magnificent birdie at the 7th.
The players halved the 8th in par and 9th with the the large gallery impressed by the quality of golf on show.
Two up at the turn, Louise found the bunker at the 10th but Vicki missed the chance to claw one back by three putting but after halving 11, she reduced the deficit to one up at the 12th. Holes 13 and 14 were halved in par once again with birdie chances missed.
The 15th hole was to prove decisive in the outcome of the match. Both players narrowly failed to reach the green with their second shots but it was Louise who played the better chip to the green and increased her lead to two up.
They both had good drives at 16 but Vicki’s second shot did not find the green whilst Louise played a lob wedge to three feet. Vicki managed to get up and down for par to put a little pressure on Louise, however she finished with a birdie which was a fitting end to the match.
This year’s Ladies’handicap Championship was keenly contested by Wendy Donaldson and Louise Samphier, both playing in their first championship final.
This turned out to be a tremendous contest between two closely matched players and played in good spirits.
Wendy took an early lead before being pulled back by Louise and the lead frequently changed hands with some great golf being played.
The match was all square going down the 18th where Louise came out the winner by one up.
Both players came through the Get into Golf Initiative promoted by the club over the past three years. The club now has more than 100 lady members which in the current climate is fabulous. Thanks to everyone who came out to support all the finals.
