JACK MAKES IT SIX OF THE BEST

- DAVID OGILVIE

Stirling Albion have made central midfielder Jack Leitch their sixth new signing of the summer following his departure from Peterhead.

The 25-year-old, who is the son of former Motherwell player Scott Leitch, began his career at Fir Park and had a season at Airdrie before spending the last three years with Peterhead.

Jack joins fellow new recruits Declan Byrne, Kieran Moore, Kurtis Roberts, Scott Roberts and Andy Ryan at Forthbank for the 2020/21 season.

Manager Kevin Rutkiewicz admitted he wasn’t expecting Leitch to be available, but moved quickly to secure his man, with the midfielder currently anticipated to be the last signing at Albion ahead of the new season.

Kevin said: “Jack has been one of Peterhead’s best players in recent years and scored 12 goals from midfield when they won the League Two title two seasons ago.

“He didn’t get as many goals in League One last season but still had several assists.

“His numbers are good and we are getting a player who is very durable and has a good work-rate. He is good for a goal and an assist and it has been my objective all along to add that.

“He gets into good positons on the pitch and I’m delighted we got the deal done. We initially expected Jack to be staying at Peterhead but when we heard he would be leaving we moved quickly.

“I feel every signing we have made has had a touch of quality about it. I would say that is us pretty much done in terms of the squad for next season although you never want to close the door completely.”

Chairman Stuart Brown added: “The board is delighted to have been in a position to financially support the recruitment achieved by Kevin and his management team of James Creaney, Bill Orr and David Peat.

“It’s been a real team effort, with no stone left unturned in ensuring every player’s stats stood up to indepth scrutiny prior to signing.

“I can’t wait for us to get started now – it’s been a very, very long close season! We plan to get formal pre-season training under way at the beginning of September.”

Meanwhile, the Betfred Cup campaign will see Stirling Albion compete in Group D along with Ross County, Arbroath, Montrose and Elgin City.

The Binos will play two home and two away games during October and November.

The full fixture list and Premier Sports live TV selections are expected to be published by the SPFL in the coming days.
