Welcome mat put out at The Smith Museums and galleries get green light to open doors
It’s the end of a long wait for the region’s museums and galleries as they finally open their doors for visitors this week.
The attractions have been among the last to emerge from the restrictions of lockdown, but the cultural venues have joined other indoor hospitality venues in being given the green light.
The formal opening date is tomorrow, with staff eager to welcome visitors back to local sites such as the Stirling Smith art gallery and museum.
The museum’s collections manager, Nicola Wilson, said: “We are delighted to welcome visitors back to The Smith on August 20. Our café and garden are also open and we hope you will visit us soon.”
“The new interactive map shows which venues are open and can be accessed online. This is updated on a daily basis as museums reopen.

Staff will be on hand to guide visitors through the enhanced safety measures introduced at the site, while hungry visitors will still be catered for as the Smith’s cafe will also be re-opened on Thursday.
Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, added: “As we emerge from lockdown many of us will be planning a return visit to our favourite museum or gallery.
“With so many of our museums and galleries across Scotland now able to open, there’s so much to choose from, many with wonderful outdoor spaces to enjoy with the whole family.
“It’s not just a fun day out, museums and galleries have a positive impact on our social wellbeing as well as the local economy so we are urging everyone to make a point of visiting their favourite museum or gallery.
“Additionally, with many of us staycationing this year, it is a wonderful opportunity to discover more of Scotland’s inspiring museums and galleries.”
