Hydro power plan for glen

Changes after public criticism

- ALASTAIR MCNEILL

Redrawn plans for a hydroelectric substation in Glen Lochay have been outlined by Scottish Hydro Electric.

The proposals for the site northwest of Killin comprise a platform area, control building, ancillary facilities and landscaping on land near the existing power station.

The redesigned SHE Transmission plans follow previous proposals submitted in March and November last year as well as public consultation events in May and December.

In a letter lodged with the latest proposal of application notice (PAN) Scottish and Southern Energy Networks environmental project manager Keith Smith states: “Redesign has taken place to take account of comments raised by members of the public and stakeholders.

“The proposed development is located on an unused area of grassland directly adjacent to the existing substation.

“The existing Lochay Power Station will not be subject to change and we will endeavour to seek opportunities for additional planting around the site. Associated modifications will be required to the overhead line.

“As well as the substation the development will require a temporary site compound which shall be accesssed from the existing substation access road, rather than the public road.

“Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission was granted permission for the temporary compound in June 2020.”

The company plans to hold an online public consultation event on its plans on Thursday, September 17, between 4pm and 7pm.
