A sixth positive Covid-19 case has been confirmed by NHS Forth Valley as part of an ongoing cluster.

The latest confirmed case is a household contact of one of the original five cases, first reported on Tuesday.

A list of the places the infected cases had worked or visited was also released - although the risk to the general public for anyone who has visited these businesses was said to be “extremely low”.

Three of the affected venues were in Dunblane - Tesco, the Village Inn and GS Meldrum newsagents - as well as Bridge of Allan Sports Club and Mcdonald’s in Stirling’s Drip Road.

Bridge of Allan Sports Club president Stewart Penman assured the club has strictly followed all government guidelines as did the management of the Village Inn.

Closure dates have now been set for two doomed rural bank branches.

Killin’s Bank of Scotland is to shut on March 24 and Balfron’s local branch will close for good on March 8.

Plans to shut the banks had been put on hold because of the pandemic - but bosses say they will now progress them after

“careful consideration”.

Local groups and politicians have reacted with anger to the final plans.

A tweet from Stirling University Labour Society which stated “Defend Richard Leonard” beside an image of an AK-47 assault rifle has been condemned by the party.

The Stirling Uni Labour account published the tweet in support of Mr Leonard, a Stirling University graduate, who had faced calls earlier this week to resign.

They have since deleted it and apologised.

A Stirling Constituency Labour Party spokesperson told the Observer that the tweets were “offensive and had no place in our political discourse”.

In a statement the Uni Labour group said a member had wrongly posted the image on the group account instead of a personal Twitter page. It added: “The tweet was not an attempt to incite violence, but a play on an old meme template which would state ‘Defend Post Punk’.”
