Teenager and blind dog Munchkin hike 10k to raise £2000 for animal sanctuary
A Balfron teenager and his blind four-legged friend have raised £2000 for a west Stirlingshire animal sanctuary in a 10km walk.
Campbell Harris and totally blind Munchkin from Glendrick Roost
Animal Sanctuary, near Aberfoyle, completed their Kilt Walk event from Buchlyvie to Aberfoyle.
They have now received their Kilt Walk 2020 medal marking their achievement – which Munchkin completed off lead.
Campbell, aged 14, is a strong supporter of the sanctuary, which has been running for almost two decades.
It looks after more than 160 creatures of all sizes, from gerbils up to Clydesdale horses, who have been abused, abandoned or neglected, giving them a home for life.
They also offer educational and therapeutic activities, including for those with special needs.
Glendrick Roost founder Mione Morrison said:“campbell is a wonderful supporter. He originally came as our only Duke of Edinburgh participant this year in July and did his volunteering here to cover the bronze award.
“After he had finished he asked to stay on and has continued to come every Tuesday evening and any weekend he could. He did come every day if possible over the two weeks at half term.”
She added:“both Campbell and Munchkin are stars.”
Like most charities, Glendrick Roost has had a particularly challenging year, with most of their usual fundraising activities having been curtailed by the coronavirus pandemic restrictions.
One of their alternative fundraising efforts this year, however, is a new calendar. They are priced at a minimum of £6 and are available by messaging Glendrick Roost via their facebook page.
Glendrick Roost also have a crowdfunding page at https://www. crowdfunder.co.uk/savetheroost.
