Help groups that will miss out on fireworks cash

- CHRIS MARZELLA

A fundraiser has been launched to help charities that would normally have raked in donations from Bridge of Allan’s popular Guy Fawkes fireworks display.

Organisers Stirling and Bridge of Allan Round Table last month announced that this year’s pyrotechnics display has been axed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The group donates cash raised from the event each year to a host of good causes across the area. Now, with this year’s display not going ahead, the Round Table have set up a Just Giving page to raise funds.

The group took to its Facebook page to say: “As November 5 finally approaches, we would just like to reconfirm that this years fireworks event won’t be going ahead, due to Covid-19.

“Normally at this time of year, we would frantically be trying to finalise all the various elements of the event that come together, to make the fireworks each year, such a major success.

“This doesn’t mean that the Round Table guys have been sitting around doing nothing. At the start of the pandemic, we did Santa’s Summer Sleigh, which raised food contributions worth between £8,000 to £10,000, that were distributed to a number of local food banks. Since then we have continually been thinking of other ways to help the local community.

“Although the fireworks aren’t taking place this year, we would be extremely grateful if anyone who wishes to donate, can visit our Just Giving page and donate whatever they can.

“No matter how much, it will all go towards helping out our local community, during these difficult times.

“We also want to confirm that unless current guidelines change dramatically, we still intend going ahead with our annual Christmas tree sale in Bridge of Allan, on Saturday, December 12.

“We also intend doing the usual five nights of Santa’s sleigh – on December 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22 – visiting our usual local areas. We have also been in touch with Santa to see if he can do an additional event this year.

“Further details of all these, will be announced in the coming weeks.”
