Trail created theatre magic

- KAIYA MARJORIBANKS

Halloween magic was brought to Dunblane at the weekend thanks to a local community theatre company.

Dunblane’s Rubber Chicken Theatre held an outdoor illuminated trail around Holmehill from Thursday until Saturday, offering a special way to celebrate Halloween.

The ‘Hocus Pocus on the Hill’ event featured performances by Rubber Chicken Theatre youngsters as well as lights, music, dance and even some high flying performers in amongst the trees.

The theatre company’s director Pamela Mackie said: “As a small social enterprise, being able to do something positive in the community as everything round about us looks increasingly dark is so important.

“We’re hugely thankful that the current guidance still allows for illuminated trails (this was classed as an outdoor attraction, much like zoos, country parks etc) and we’re delighted to join other similar outdoor walks across the country in bringing some light and magic into a difficult time.

“Holmehill is such a large and beautiful space, that we were thrilled to be able to create such an open, special and above all, safe trail.

“A massive thankyou to everyone who came along, participated, volunteered at or just supported ‘Hocus Pocus on the Hill’.

“Everyone involved had such a positive energy - despite the rain and wind. It was just so lovely to be able to work with the kids again - I’ve missed them all.

“Thanks also to all our lovely visitors for being so patient when we had to close part of the route due to the wind.

“A final shout out must go to our production team: Jamie Fallen, Thomas Ramage, and Fraser Sanderson - Holmehill has never looked so beautiful.”

Locals took to social media to praise the event.

For scary fun

Kelly Johnstone said: “It was magical from the lighting, costumes and the performances, the kids done an amazing job! It was so good to have something to look forward to this Halloween which was so well organised and safe. It really gave a sense of normality in these times.”

Louise Barnes said: “Your ability to make wonderful things happen for our children and our community - we are very lucky. Creativity and invention combined.”

Andrea Partridge added: “The whole event was amazing. Production, lighting and performances were superb. Talk about making kids resilient. Thinking outside the box takes on a whole new meaning.”

And Lesley Fulford said: “Have to say even though the wind meant part was closed, it actually made it spookier.”

Rubber Chicken Theatre are now preparing for “Christmas Sparkle on the Hill” as well as “Elf Jr the Musical”.
