Restrictions on travel are a step too far
Dear Editor There’s little surprise that the coronavirus restrictions existing in the central belt for the last few weeks have been continued by the Scottish Government into Tier 3 of the new restrictions applicable from November 2 with some slight easing in respect of the hospitality sector.
However, while the former curbs advised against travel outwith the relevant health board area perhaps to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed and services maintained, the new restrictions cover travel between local council areas even if they are in the same tier.
This means that travel between Stirling and Clackmannanshire and vice versa is frowned upon.
Why this has been adjusted to such a local level has not been clearly explained by the government.
There is no doubt that much of the need for such severe restrictions has been caused by a minority of people, through arrogance, ignorance or stupidity, failing to adhere to the Covid-19 rules in relation to social distancing, face masks etc. and the majority ultimately suffer because of this.
But at the same time the rules must be reasonable and sensible to be accepted by people and one wonders if the local council area travel limit is a step too far?

Young Enterprise
Scotland is inspiring young people to learn and succeed through enterprise. Our highly acclaimed and Scqf-accredited Company Programme tasks senior phase pupils to set up and run their own companies. They learn about teamwork, adaptability, good communication and problem solving as they deal with spreadsheets, cash flow and sales channels.
What’s more, much of our delivery is carried out by a local volunteer team who develop the key connections with local businesses who provide their support. And it works.
For young people who need to be shown a positive way forward amidst all of the current chaos, I recommend you take a look at our programmes. It’s not too late to register.
