A popular Stirling nightclub has been given a financial lifeline as part of efforts to support culture venues during the coronavirus pandemic.

City centre venue Fubar was one of 203 venues who received the boost from the Scottish Government’s Culture Organisations and Venue Recovery Fund, with the club securing a £145,000 grant.

The fund has the aim of protecting jobs and firms which may be put at risk due to the continued shutdown of entertainment venues such as nightclubs due to Covid-19 guidelines.

A total of 203 organisations and venues were provided with £11.75 million worth of backing, with a total of 348 applications made by various venues up until the fund’s closing date for applications at the end of September.

Fubar is one of only two grants for the Stirling area, with Stuart Mccredie from the area also being given £19,315 from the scheme. The announcement represents the first tranche of grants to be dished out through the scheme, with further details from Creative Scotland about other applications to follow shortly.

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “The Scottish Government is determined to do everything within our powers to see the sector through this crisis.

“This emergency funding will provide vital support to a wide range of cultural organisations and venues across Scotland currently facing extreme challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It has been designed specifically to help organisations cope with the immediate issues they are facing and to help save jobs.

“I am pleased to see such a wide range of organisations supported, from comedy clubs and theatres to galleries and production companies.”

Creative Scotland CEO, Iain Munro, added: “The funds being announced today offer some further welcome support to help protect jobs across a wide range of businesses in Scotland.

“The negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on Scotland‘s creative and cultural sector are clearly ongoing, and we will continue to keep focused, with the Scottish Government and other partners, on helping those people and organisations in most need.”
