MMA fighter Chris is proud of winning run

Tullibody Mixed Martial Arts fighter Chris Duncan is getting ready to take on new challenges after a recent winning streak.

The 27-year-old, who grew up in Strathyre, has been unbeaten in seven lightweight division matches in MMA shows over the last couple of years.

Six years ago the former Callander Mclaren High School pupil gave up his job as a shepherd in Glen Lochay near Killin to take up the combat sport full time.

His most recent triumph, in an MMA show run by US promoter Bellator, over Iamik Furtado of Guinea-bassau took place last month in Milan and was broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK and CBS Sports in the US.

Chris lives in Tullibody with his partner Laura Sinclair and they are expecting a baby in April.

Speaking last week of his successful run, Chris said: “You don’t see that very often, and my opponents haven’t been pushovers. They’ve very much been on my level.

“It lets people know that I’m here to stay.

“I’m proud of my undefeated record, but I am also under no illusions. I just want to keep getting out there and doing the very best I can, and fighting to provide for my family.”

According to Chris, the key to his success is discipline. He trains in Stirling’s Evo gym in Colquhoun Street twice a day, six days a week.

And he has no intention of winding down any time soon.

Chris commented: “You have to put in the work. It’s important to train even when you don’t feel up to it.

“And if I have a bad day, I take the attitude that tomorrow is a new day. No one day is the same.”

He is looking forward to more contests and wants to take on Irish MMA fighter Kiefer Crosbie.

Chris added: “The seven wins are great, but next I want to fight Kiefer Crosbie in Dublin. I think that would be a fantastic match-up.”

■ His run of seven wins are as follows – April 7, 2018: Pietro Colonna of Italy in Darlington, England (submission in round two); June 2, 2018: Steven Moore (Northern Ireland) in Linwood, Scotland (TKO in round three); November 17, 2018: Niall Smith (Northern Ireland) in Linwood, Scotland (TKO in round one); February 23, 2019: Sam Slater (Ireland) in Dublin, Ireland (TKO in round one); August 4, 2019: Leandro Souza (Brazil) in Musselburgh, Scotland (TKO in round one); February 22, 2020: Mateusz Piskorz (Poland) in Dublin, Ireland (TKO in round two); October 1, 2020: Iamik Furtado (Guinea-bassau) in Milan, Italy (TKO in round two).
