STIRLING HIGH SCHOOL BY AYANNA CULLEN S6 JUNIOR CAPTAINS

Recently, the school’s Vice Captains held interviews with all S3 applicants for the positions of Junior Captain. This year, the positions will not be filled by one candidate from each school House (Randolph, Douglas and Stewart); this means that only the best candidates will be chosen for the roles regardless of House. Their duties will include helping to run our school’s pupil voice groups as well as the newly founded Leadership Academy. The interviews were conducted on Friday afternoon and the decision was made and announced by the end of the day. Congratulations to Stirling High’s four new Junior Captains - Libby Cullen, Joshua Geddes, Jenifer Gillespie and Lucas Cuthbert.

COVID RECOVERY TEAM

Covid Recovery Social Justice Ambassadors met with Fern Dennehy and Ricky Williamson from Stirling Council’s Senior Phase and Youth Participation team. The project aims to gather information as well as having a closer look at the impact of Covid-19 on our society and how we can help the youths of today to recover from the effect it’s had on their lives. The group aims to meet once a week to discuss and evaluate these issues as well create effective solutions.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

School graphic designer, pupil Mollie Macgregor, has been hard at work on her latest project: designing logos for every department in the school.

“I took inspiration from each department within the faculties I was creating these logos for,” said Mollie. “I wanted to make sure that they could be added to later on and could work together cohesively. I didn’t want them to be too literal either, so for science I didn’t just do a beaker, a rocket and a DNA strand; I tried to combine elements from the three sciences in a way that somehow made sense within the story created in the icon.

“I tried to do the same with all of the other faculties, but it’s quite difficult not to just draw a book for English and call it a day! I started with a rough first draft, sending a few of those in to a deputy headteacher to choose from. Then I just cleaned them up, coloured them in, chose a font and that was that!

“I hope to be a graphic designer or illustrator in the future, so this is a good opportunity to experience what it would be like to work in that way.”

ECO CLUB

This week, the school’s eco club celebrated its 18th birthday. Led by Mrs Togneri, the club has been supported by many staff and pupils over the years and it is hoped it continues down its path to create a greener world for all. As of Monday,

November 9, a new scheme will be running that means every S1 form class will take it in turns to do litter picking during their PSE class while being accompanied by their S6 buddies. It is hoped that this will be a great way to help S1s bond with their buddies all the while keeping the school grounds greener.
