Children in Need fun and tributes paid
Stirling High
Remembrance Day
Last week, the school broadcasted their first online Remembrance Service. Headteacher Mr Paul Cassidy gave the opening address which was followed by “To Germany” by Charles Hamilton Sorley, read by Robynne Hendrix (S3).
Next, a small clip was shown from Peter Jackson’s “They Shall Not Grow Old” which included real footage from the First World War. School Captains Emily Melrose and Sadie Douglas gave a small speech about a former Stirling High pupil David Anthony Cohen, who fought and died in the war; they spoke of his life and how we remember him today.
Music was performed by S6 students Megan Adams, Emily Melrose, Eva Angus and Sadie Douglas singing a unique rendition of “Till Jamie Comes Hame.” The traditional poem “In Flanders Fields” was read by Ayanna Cullen (S6) and school piper Arran Hogg followed on by playing “Flowers of the Forest” at the war memorial outside the Albert Halls in Stirling.
Japjeet Sond (S3) read “Silent Graves” written by English teacher Mr Robert Saleh and Mr Guy played “The Last Post” on the bugle while the School Captains laid the Memorial Wreath. David Beechey led out the service by playing a beautiful rendition of “Comptine d’un autre ete” by Yann Tiersen.
Special thanks to production team Jamie Burke, Mollie Macgregor, David Beechey, Angus Henderson and Finlay Muir for putting the video together. The link to the service for those who wish to see it is: https://youtu.be/ Itkz958grag
Children in Need
There was a dress down day for the annual Children in Need Day and everyone was encouraged to bring in £1 donation towards this worthwhile cause. Fun activities took place throughout the day such as Head Teacher Mr Paul Cassidy taking on the role of DJ at lunchtime, taking music requests for a £1 donation. Total raised by Stirling High School staff and pupils was a fantastic £755.90. Prelims
Music Prelims came knocking on the door of all Higher music students. After a long week, all 31 students have successfully completed their prelims. All vocal, woodwind, brass and piper students completed their prelims at home due to Covid guidelines while the rest of the students completed theirs in school.
