Survey on active travel in Riverside

- CHRIS MARZELLA

A community consultation is be carried out to assess active travel options in Riverside.

Riverside Community Council is to launch a new community Riverside Active Travel Survey which will ask the community about how they travel to, from, and around Riverside, and if there are any barriers that stop them walking, cycling and using public transport.

The survey is part of the community council’s ‘Travel-light Riverside’ Project, which aims to identify any issues with active travel and transport and suggest ways to tackle these.

It’s hoped that by finding solutions to these issues the community council will be able to push for the improvement of the quality of life for those who live, work in, and visit Riverside by reducing congestion and pollution, improving health, and enhancing public spaces.

Community council chair Joan Murphy said: ”We are delighted to have received funding from Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places for this project, and to be working with Forth Environment Link who are helping us to launch and run the survey.

“We would like to hear from anyone living or working in Riverside, especially members of those groups who are often over-looked, for example, people with disabilities, older people, and students.

“We want to make Riverside a place where everyone feels safe and confident to use ‘people-powered’ travel, so we need as much information as possible to inform us about the steps to take”.

Information from the survey and other community council consultations, will be used to create a Riverside Active Travel Action Plan, and will identify future projects to be take forward with Stirling Council and other partners.

The survey is due to run until the end of January 2021 though is likely to be extended due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The survey is anonymous and will take less than 10 minutes to fill in. It is available online at https://www.riversidecommunitycouncil. co.uk/riversideactivetravelsurvey. There are also flyers and posters around Riverside with the survey link and QR code, which will take you directly to the survey and by phone, calling 07923 277624. Forth Environment Link is taking telephone surveys in office hours between 9am and 5pm.
